Prof. Dr. Manfred Raupp from Lörrach, Germany, visited Hamdi Sedefçi, mayor of Edirne.
I see Prof. Dr. Raupp as a friend and a brother. We considered himself like honorary consul of Edirne. We would like to give him a votive tablet and a title of privilege of honorary consul. Edirne is moving on the way of becoming a European city. We opened the city center to the pedestrian and closed to the traffic. There are Ottoman motifs on the Sevda Çeşmesi at the Saraçlar Street. Chimeras symbolise Roman Age and status symbolise the Republic. In this way, We united Romans, Ottomans and Republic. Presently, We have some problems about Sevda Çeşmesi. I believe that we are going to get over this problems., Hamdi Sedefçi, mayor says.
“We feel ourselves very well in Edirne. Especially in 25th November, Independence Day impressed us very much. To live that moment was a different beauty for us. in Germany, mostly older people participate to this kind of events. We saw here the opposite of that. Title of privilege of honorary consul is an honour to me. We are friends with the sensations from heart. We have been running seminaries in Prague for 20 years. This is the first time, we encounter such this high level German language in Trakya University. Bottom of friendship bridges is getting strong more and more. Edirne has catched Europe with its modernity. People feel themselves as if they were in Madrid, Lörrach or Londan. City center of Lörrach was opened to the traffic till 3 years ago. Being closed to the traffic of a city centers, make them real cities. I like very much Saraçlar street especially fountain monument which is in the center of the street impressed me very much. I took Picture of it and i am going to offer this to Lörrach. I confounded, when I heard that some people came out against it. Saraçlar Street has become a really modern center. You have created a square which people are able to have rest and walk, Prof. Dr. Manfred Raupp says.
Prof. Raupp invited Hamdi Sedefçi to the carnival traditionally organised in Lörrach every year and gave a book as a gift to him. Hamdi Sedefçi gave a painting as a gift to Prof Raupp. |
